In this episode, I start setting up the software side of my homelab by installing Proxmox.
Before jumping into the install, I talk a bit about virtual machines — what VMs are, why they’re so commonly used on servers, and how they help you run multiple services on a single machine. I also explain what a bare-metal hypervisor is and why Proxmox is a popular choice for homelabs and self-hosted setups.
From there, I show how I create a Ventoy bootable USB drive and add the Proxmox installer to it. Then I boot the homelab server using Ventoy and walk through the Proxmox installation process step by step.
Just like the rest of this series, this isn’t meant to be a perfect or final guide — it’s a real look at how I’m building my homelab as I go. I’m learning, adjusting, and fixing things along the way, and any changes or mistakes will show up in future episodes.
