Rutter's Requiem and Orchestral Works
by Wagner, Vaughan Williams and Beethoven

On Sunday, November 6, 2022 at 7 PM, the 40-member First Parish Festival Choir, soloists and a 25-member chamber orchestra, under the direction of Rip Jackson, performed John Rutter's deeply inspiring choral work “Requiem.” Richard Wagner's beautiful “Siegfried Idyll,” Ralph Vaughan Williams's ethereal “Fantasia on Greensleeves” and Beethoven’s powerful “Benedictus.” (from the Mass in C) was also be on the program.
The First Parish Festival Choir consists of members of the sanctuary choir and guest singers from the community and also professional singers. Their director, Rip Jackson has led the music program at First Parish in Lexington since 2015. Over the years, they have presented many diverse concerts including Vivaldi’s Gloria, “Music from the African Diaspora,” Appalachian Folk Music, Broadway Cabarets, a Jams for Justice concert (benefiting LexRAP) and a Ukrainian Medical Relief Concert. In 2018, they presented a fully staged production of Paul Winter’s Missa Gaia with a professional dance company from Vermont. And in June of 2019, they toured Germany performing concerts in beautiful churches and cathedrals.
