The agrifood sector is particularly vulnerable to fraud, resulting in widespread public skepticism towards the industry and even posing a danger to consumer health. In Italy, the turnover of counterfeit Italian-sounding food products is estimated to be 60 billion euros, corresponding to about twice the value of total exports, and half the revenue of the Italian food industry.
Traceability and certification are important tools to combat fraud, but it is important that traceability includes authentication elements.
SICPA was chosen by the autonomous region Aoste Valley and the company EXPOVda for the traceability and security of their food products. Through SICPA’s security labels, which incorporate the most advanced technology, consumers around the world can feel confident that they are buying an authentic product.
