Whitinga ora pēpi supports babies and whānau to transition out of the hospital environment, back to their own home. Families get the support they need to independently meet their child's needs, with assistance close by if they need it. The unit was the first of its kind in Aotearoa New Zealand, set up in collaboration with Starship and Te Whatu Ora Te Toka Tumai Auckland. Thanks to Starship supporters and Barfoot & Thompson, Whitinga ora pēpi was equipped with all the furniture and equipment it needed from day one.
