Off-Shoulder Ruffle Baby Frock | Plaid Beautiful Dress Cutting & Stitching (Easy)

Welcome back to my channel! Today I’m stitching this trendy plaid off-shoulder frock with long sleeves, frill neckline and a satin bow belt—exactly like the image.

Materials

Plaid cotton/flannel 1.3–1.6 m • Rib knit (black) 0.25 m • 8–10” zipper or back buttons • ¼” elastic for cuffs & frill • Interfacing for placket • Satin ribbon/belt • Matching thread & bias strip.

Measurements (5–6 yr reference)

Chest ~ 26” | Waist ~ 24” | Dress length ~ 26” | Sleeve length ~ 15”.
Draft with ease 1–1.5” and seam allowance 1 cm, hem 2 cm.

Cutting (short & exact to the look)
1. Bodice (plaid): Front on fold, Back in 2 pcs with placket/zip. Width = chest÷4 + ease. Draw a deep, off-shoulder neckline.
2. Knit Yoke (mock neck): Front & back tank shape with high round neck; neckband strip (length = neck × 0.85, width 3–4 cm).
3. Sleeves: Full length, little ease at cap; add 3 cm extra width at wrist for elastic casing.
4. Skirt: One or two rectangles, width = waist × 2.5, height = dress length − bodice length − hem.
5. Frill/Ruffle: Long strip = neckline round × 1.5, width 4–5” (folded).
6. Belt: Satin ribbon 1.2–1.5 m or sew a fabric belt.

Stitching (YouTuber style – crisp steps)
1. Make knit yoke: Join shoulders, close sides. Attach neckband; topstitch.
2. Bodice: Join plaid shoulders; finish off-shoulder neckline with a narrow facing/bias.
3. Attach ruffle: Gather frill, stitch along bodice neckline edge (outside). Thread a narrow elastic inside for soft gathers.
4. Join yoke & bodice: Place knit yoke inside bodice; tack at shoulders and side seams so it looks layered.
5. Sleeves: Close sleeve seam, lightly ease at cap, attach to armholes. Fold wrist casing, insert ¼” elastic, secure.
6. Side seams: Close bodice sides in one go with sleeves.
7. Skirt: Join sides, gather top to bodice waist; attach.
8. Back opening: Add zipper/placket through bodice and skirt; stitch neat.
9. Hem: Turn 2 cm and stitch.
10. Belt: Tie satin bow at front; tack at side seams to keep centered.
