Belén at Mundo Marino, sometime in the early 90s.
Belén was captured January 6, 1988, in Argentina and immediately bought by Mundo Marino. Here, she met Milagro*. After Milagro* died in 1991 Belén was alone until Kshamenk was captured in September 1992.
The pair got along well and Belén fell pregnant, however she gave birth to a stillborn in February 1998.
Belén died on February 4, 2000, from unknown causes. She was in the 4th month of her second pregnancy.
Kshamenk has been without the company of another orca since Belén’s death. He is one of three orcas held captive who are isolated from their species.
