I think there are arguably two main categories to consider when choosing headphones to use in bed: 'standard' headphones for everyday use that you can use for sleep if you want to, and headphones that were specifically created with sleep in mind.
Many of the standard headphones have active noise cancellation, which can be helpful if you sleep in a noisy bedroom or have a snoring partner. The sleep headphones don't have noise cancellation but tend to be more comfortable, especially if you're a side or front sleeper.
Unfortunately, none of the headband style have active noise cancellation. They are comfortable to wear though, so it's a case of deciding what your priority is. When a brand comes along with the perfect combination of comfort and noise cancelling, I'll be very happy - as I'm sure many people will.
So if anyone is reading this who happens to work for a headphones company, please do us all a favour and invent either a comfortable headband or tiny wireless earbuds with amazing noise cancelling that can be worn in any sleep position, with great battery life, lasts for years, and is relatively affordable. Surely that's not too much to ask?
