Personality Disorder in Older Adults

Full title: Personality Disorder in Older Adults: Understanding the Person, Building Skillful Approaches and Fostering Wellness in Care Teams

This event was co-hosted by BSO as part of Family Councils Ontario 2025 Innovation Summit.

Participants learned about older adults living with personality disorders and their unique care needs within long-term care homes. The webinar shared a Personality Disorder in Older Adults Capacity Building Package designed for educators, behavioural support champions, and leaders to use as evidence-informed educational resources. The goal of these resources was to build capacity within clinical teams to skillfully and confidently care for individuals living with personality disorders

Speakers:
Debbie Hewitt Colborne, RN, MScN, GNC(C) : An Advanced Practice Nurse with experience and expertise working with older adults within long-term care, the community and hospital settings. Her current work at the Behavioural Supports Ontario (BSO) Provincial Coordinating Office focuses on activities that support the implementation of person, family and relationship-centred care of older adults with, or at risk of, responsive behaviours/personal expressions associated with dementia, mental health, substance use and/or other neurological conditions.

Kelly Davies : A Registered Nurse with over 25 years’ experience, granting her knowledge, skill and appreciation in a variety of areas, including; Adult Mental Health, Geriatric Psychiatry, Leadership, Community and Long-Term Care. Currently, Kelly's area of specialty focuses on Mental Health and Dementia Care. Within this role, her time is dedicated supporting Long-Term Care homes, Acute Care, Community Partners, Care Givers, Families and Health Care Professionals in identifying care needs of the older adult, determining goals of care, exploring available resources and fulfilling opportunities for education and training.
