Fernando Sor (1778-1839) was a Spanish classical guitarist and composer. In addition to virtuosic works, Sor also wrote a great deal of didactic pieces to appeal to larger audiences of players and listeners. This work is the first on a series of 24 progressive studies that features a typical binary form with reprise 1 beginning and ending on tonic and reprise 2 beginning on the dominant and ending with a PAC. The majority of this piece uses a basic 8 measure sentence structure and follows the mold of basic idea for four measures and continuity/cadence for the other 4 measures.
