For SUBTITLES in any language click on the wheel under the video!] Eine Gondel- und Bootsfahrt mit Wagner durch Venedig, mit seinen eigenen originalen Kommentaren, den Berichten von Cosima, Venedig-Bildern vom Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts und aktuellen Venedig-Filmaufnahmen. Dazu viel Musik von Wagner und Liszt in Klavierbearbeitungen, also so, wie zu Wagners Zeiten im Regelfall seine Musik zu erleben war. Neben kleinen Ausschnitten von Wagners Wesendonck-Liedern, die ich selbst auf meinem Bechstein-Flügel spiele, sind vor allem faszinierende Klavierrollen-Aufnahmen zu hören, die hochvirtuose Pianisten der romantischen Tradition aufgenommen haben.
Sechs Male war Wagner in Venedig. Hier hat er Zuflucht gefunden nach seiner Affaire mit Mathilde Wesendonck und dann den zweiten Akt des Tristan komponiert. Später ist er mehrmals mit Cosima und allen seinen Kindern angereist. Im September 1882 quartierte er sich für längere Zeit in Venedig ein, starb dann aber am 13. Februar 1883. Der Dokumentarfilm dokumentiert die Ereignisse um Richard Wagners Tod wie auch seinen Alltag, seine Sorgen, Gedanken und Eindrücke von Venedig.
Leider ist bei YouTube die BILDQUALITÄT durch die Datenreduktion nicht mehr original. Am meisten leiden unkonturierte Bilder wie meine schönen Wasserspiele. Daher bitte wenigstens mit dem Zahnrädchen die höchstmögliche Qualität einstellen: 720 oder am besten 1080 HD!

A journey via boat and gondola with Wagner through the romantic views of Venice, photographed in 2013 and in pictures of the late 19th century. To understand the German reports by Wagner and Cosima please click on the wheel under the video, choose the language for the subtitles, and you get a 95 percent correct translation! Plus wonderful music by Wagner and Liszt. Besides my own little musical contribution of some extracts of the Wesendonck-Lieder you may mainly listen to wonderfully played piano transcriptions of Wagner and Liszt from piano-rolls. This also reminds the 19th century: Wagner's music was mainly heard as piano transcriptions. Moreover you hear Alfred Grünfeld and Josef Hofman, pianists grown up in the romantic era.
Wagner came six times to Venezia. The first time he found a new residence after his love affair with Mathilde Wesendonck and composed the second act of Tristan.Four times he came with Cosima and his children. The last time he died.
If you do not understand the reports you may at least see the diverse locations, the rooms where he died, and enjoy the beauties of Venice... I am very sorry, but translating the whole texts and inserting English subtitles would be such a tremendous work in addition I cannot afford so far...
