The Battle of Antonov Airport, also known as the battle of Hostomel Airport, was a military engagement which occurred at the Antonov Airport in Hostomel near Kyiv. It was one of the first battles between Ukrainian and Russian forces.
The Russian assault force was made up mainly of Airborne troops, the notorous VDV, which they attempted to seize the strategic point in the first 24 hours of war. During the battle the famous aircraft An-225 was destroyed by the Russian during the attack.
The Ukrainia have regained control of the airport following the Russian withdrawal from Kyiv Oblast after 2 april 2022.
