I'm no expert but I suspect the reason spawn is laid close to the edge is so the heat of the water makes the tadpoles grow. The first clump had hatched but only the freshest spawn on the top of the big communal clump had hatched. The rest wasn't looking too great 😣im suspecting that the newly hatched tadpoles will feed off the unhatched eggs (which seem to sink down into the cooler water) as they grow. I will try and post updates which might be harder when the tadpoles swim off to deeper water.
