Uki Uki Japanese Lesson #13 Q&A Part 3
Welcome to Uki Uki NihonGO! + Culture
Q.1 What kind of interesting and unique Japanese gestures are there?
Some of the gestures demonstrated in the video can communicate following ideas:
"Me." (touching your nose)
"No." (waving both hands)
"No good." (making an X with fingers or arms)
"Sorry." or "Please." (meeting two hands in front of your face)
Q.2 What is the meaning of どうも(doumo)?
どうも is a shortened version of various Japanese expressions, including:
どうもこんにちは。(Doumo konnichiwa. = Hello.)
どうもおひさしぶりです。/どうもごぶさたしています。(Doumo ohisashiburi desu. / Doumo gobusata shite imasu. = Long time no see.)
どうもありがとうございます。(Doumo arigatou gozaimasu. = Thank you very much.)
どうもすみません。/どうもしつれいします。(Doumo sumimasen. /Doumo shitsurei shimasu.)
It's a sort of an all-purpose greeting. It's convenient, but in business formal situations, it'd be preferable to use the full expression rather than just どうも(doumo).
