Disney and the West has a 'Female Protagonist' Problem

Recently, Disney has released their new Star Wars show The Acolyte, and upon its release, there’s been explosive discourse between those who dislike the show versus those who are in support of it. And as the critics score for the Acolyte currently sits at 83% and the audience score sits at 14%, it is clear that there’s a disparity between the opinions of the mainstream media and the audience regarding the show’s quality.
And even though the discourse surrounding The Acolyte has been ugly, the ugliest aspect of this whole affair is the mainstream media’s demonization of those who are genuinely unsatisfied with the Acolyte by labeling them all the isms and phobes in the book. And although this defamatory tactic is gross, it inspired me to try and understand why as of late does Disney seem to struggle with their female protagonists.
