The new Renault 5 E-Tech: Better than the original R5?

The Stig’s Austrian cousin has always been quite the traditionalist when it comes to cars, and let’s just say, he’s not exactly fond of electric vehicles. He’s more of a petrolhead through and through, and the thought of driving something that doesn’t roar to life with an engine sound just doesn’t sit well with him. Still, somehow, we managed to persuade him to take the new Renault 5 E-Tech for a spin. It wasn’t going to be an easy task, but we were up for the challenge.
Before he set off, we made sure to give him a few essential tips. We warned him about the relatively limited range of electric cars, especially when driving aggressively, and advised him to stay within the city limits for his test drive. "Take it easy today, alright?" we asked. But deep down, we knew we were fighting a losing battle. His driving style is, well, a bit more... enthusiastic. Sure enough, as soon as he got behind the wheel, it became clear that our words had fallen on deaf ears.
Instead of easing into the drive, he gunned the accelerator and tore through the streets with a speed and intensity that made us wonder if this was his first time behind the wheel of a car. It was clear he was treating the Renault 5 E-Tech less like a city cruiser and more like a rally car. The way he navigated the corners, pushing the car to its limits, was something no modern Renault R5 has likely ever experienced before. And all the while, we could only watch in disbelief as he disregarded every bit of advice we’d given him. Fast, furious, and electric—just not the way we had imagined.
