At The Longevity Forum Science Summit, Daniel Ives explored the cutting edge of partial cellular reprogramming and what it could mean for extending healthy human lifespan. Building on the discovery of Yamanaka factors—which can rewind a cell’s biological age to “zero” but risk turning cells into tumors—he explained how his team is using machine learning, single-cell aging clocks, and “virtual cells” to search for safer, more targeted rejuvenation genes. Daniel showed how specific genes can reverse epigenetic age more efficiently than the classic OSK factors, without triggering pluripotency, and how inhibiting certain widely expressed “pro-aging” genes may not only rejuvenate cells but also prevent or even reverse fibrosis. Looking ahead, he described upcoming work in mice on liver, hearing loss, fibrosis, and lifespan, and painted a hopeful long-term vision: safe, systemic rejuvenation therapies that one day make maintaining biological youth as routine as taking everyday medicines.
