Simulacra and Simulation, published in 1981, is a seminal work by French sociologist and cultural theorist Jean Baudrillard. This text explores the relationships between reality, symbols, and society, proposing that in the postmodern world, simulations have replaced reality. Baudrillard argues that contemporary society is dominated by simulacra—copies of things that no longer have an original—and simulations—imitations of processes that have become more real than reality itself.
