Davis Drive, Newmarket Ontario.
Mile 34.16 Newmarket Sub
Just outside the Newmarket GO Station stands what has become York Region's most COMPLEXED Train Crossing!
It wasn't always this complexed, Before 2014-2015 this was a Standard 4 lane crossing.
In 2014 Construction of a VIVA Rapidway Began on Davis Drive between Yonge Street, and Huron Heights, As a result, the old Safetran Crossing had to be replaced to accomodate the wider road span. CN owned the Newmarket Sub at the time, hence the Safetran Lights and E bells, AND the Siemens/Invensys Rail Gate MechanismsThe Cantilever setups were installed first, and when the Rapidway was complete in late 2015, the Two Invensys Signals in the Centre Medians of the road were installed. Ever since then, it was the four Gates spanning across the SEVEN LANES of Roadway Traffic, which included the two designated bus lanes in the middle of the road.
It was complexed but it didn't stop there, in 2022 Metrolinx Installed an additional set of Western Cullen Hayes Lights on the Northeast Cantilever, facing the Pedestrian Path to the GO station Platform, Hinting possible future additions.
And What we see today happened in 2024, Metrolinx Installed Western Cullen Hayes Pedestrian Gates/Signals. When the Pedestrian signals and gates were put into service, the crossing was already experiencing Power Problems. Below I'll put a link to a Tyler M Video showcasing what happened, but the problems were resolved quickly and the crossing has been working fine ever since.
Undoubtedly, this is York Region's most Complex Train Crossing, and possibly in all of the GTA.
