Family Trip to Sapporo! 🌿 Soup Curry, Red Brick Office & Summer Travel in Hokkaido

Come along with us on our family summer trip to Sapporo, Hokkaido! 🌸

We set off from Kansai International Airport on a hot and humid Obon holiday morning, flying 1,500 km north to escape Osaka’s summer heat. After arriving in Hokkaido, we fueled up with fresh seafood bowls, picked up our rental car, and enjoyed a beautiful drive from Chitose to Sapporo — rolling hills, farms, and open landscapes so different from Kansai’s concrete and mountains.

In Sapporo, we checked into our hotels (last-minute booking adventures 😅), then headed out to explore. Our highlight was visiting the historic Red Brick Office, which had just reopened after major renovations. The architecture was stunning, and we learned a great deal about Sapporo’s history, the Ainu culture, and the city’s recent preservation efforts.

Of course, no trip to Hokkaido is complete without food, so we ended our first day with delicious Soup Curry (my first since winter 2022!). It didn’t beat my favorite in Furano, but it hit the spot after a long travel day.

What really surprised me about Sapporo in summer? The lush greenery and the cool, non-humid weather. Such a refreshing change from Kansai! 🌿
