Nagaland Students’ Federation (NSF) Demands Government Accountability Over Appointments and Student Safety Concerns
Kohima, April 18, 2025 – The Naga Students' Federation (NSF) has strongly criticized the Nagaland state government's recent decision to appoint 147 Assistant Professors in the Higher Education Department without proper recruitment procedures. The Federation described the move as "blatant favoritism" and a violation of fair recruitment practices, calling for the immediate revocation of the appointments.
In a press conference held today, NSF leaders condemned the decision, emphasizing that it bypassed the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC), undermining the merit-based recruitment system. The Federation expressed concern that such backdoor appointments rob qualified youth of fair opportunities to serve in public positions.
“We cannot allow backdoor appointments to become the norm,” said the NSF president. “This decision undermines the hard work and dedication of thousands of educated Naga youths who prepare for competitive exams with the hope of a fair chance.”
The Federation has urged the government to reverse the decision and ensure that all future appointments are conducted transparently and through a competitive process that upholds meritocracy.
Call for Anti-Bullying Committees in Schools
In addition to addressing the controversial appointments, NSF raised alarm over an alleged assault incident involving students at a school in Kohima, which has sparked outrage within the community. The Federation has called on both public and private educational institutions to establish Anti-Bullying Committees in every school across the state.
These committees, the NSF proposes, should include school administrators, teachers, parents, and students, ensuring that all incidents of bullying or harassment are swiftly addressed and prevented.
“No student should suffer in silence due to bullying,” stated NSF. “Educational institutions must be safe spaces where students are treated with respect. If schools fail to take appropriate action, we will not hesitate to step in and seek justice for the victims.”
Ongoing Commitment to Justice and Transparency
The Naga Students’ Federation also pledged to remain vigilant in advocating for justice and transparency within both educational and public sectors. They emphasized the importance of collective action to address systemic issues and improve the future of Naga society.
“We are committed to ensuring that our voices are heard and that the government remains accountable to the people,” said the NSF spokesperson. “Our fight is for a fair and just society where merit and safety are not compromised.”
The Federation concluded with a call to action, urging student unions, civil society organizations, and legislators to work together for the betterment of Naga youth.
As the situation unfolds, the NSF has made it clear that they will continue to push for systemic reforms that prioritize fairness, transparency, and the safety of students across Nagaland.
