Open enrollment for the Health Insurance Marketplace begins on November 1, allowing you to enroll in, renew, or change your plan. In California, Covered California helps connect residents with affordable health insurance and may provide financial assistance or determine eligibility for Medi-Cal. Outside of the open enrollment period, you can only make changes if you experience a qualifying life event or a significant income change.

Samantha also details Medicare enrollment periods. The initial Medicare enrollment period begins three months before turning 65, while the annual open enrollment for existing Medicare members runs from October 15 through December 7, with coverage starting January 1. During this time, you can join, drop, or switch Medicare Advantage or prescription drug plans. A separate Medicare Advantage open enrollment runs from January 1 through March 31, allowing members to make limited plan changes.
