Story Summary:

The story centers on Gajendra, an honest and compassionate woodcutter who only gathers dry wood, refusing to cut down living trees—a principle that leaves him poor and frustrates his wife, Maya.

While searching for wood, Gajendra accidentally strikes a Lion with his axe. Despite being injured, the Lion spares Gajendra, recognizing his kind heart and calling him a "friend." The Lion promises to help Gajendra by locating dry wood for him and protecting him in the jungle.

Gajendra invites the Lion for dinner, but when the Lion arrives, Maya is terrified and insults him with harsh words, calling him a dangerous animal. Deeply hurt, the Lion leaves.

The next day, the Lion tells Gajendra that the physical wound from the axe has healed, but Maya's insulting words have left a deep, unhealed wound in his heart. He states that bad words are like arrows that wound the heart permanently, unlike physical injuries, and regrettably ends their friendship.

Realizing her mistake, Maya sincerely apologizes to the Lion, accepts that friendship can exist between a human and an animal, and addresses him as "Brother." Moved by her regret and love, the Lion's emotional wound is finally healed. After a second, joyful feast, the Lion rewards his new "sister" and friend by giving them a huge treasure of gold and jewels from his cave.
