An expedition into the Sudd of South Sudan was organised by the South Sudan Trust in conjunction with BomaHills Tourism, from the 28th of February to the 3rd of March 2022. The reason for the expedition was to explore the Sudd in order to see what potential it offered as an eco-tourism destination. Totally unexplored, the Sudd is the second largest swamp in the world and home to more than a million tribespeople of South Sudan. We explored the Sudd in the state of Jonglei and met a number of Dinka Bor families living on small islands. Most of the families are nomadic, living in the Sudd and fishing during the dry season, then relocating to the mainland, on the edge of the swamp, during the rainy season. Cattle are their prize possessions and status of wealth, as well as the source of diary in their predominantly fish diet.
