EULOGY
EARLY LIFE
David Syeunda Olunga was born in Kitale , Trans Nzoia County on 19th July 1955. David was the fifth born child to the late mzee Henry Olunga Obanda and the late mama Fridah Bwabi Olunga of Kingeleni farm Kitale. David’s sibilings (in pecking order) are Walter Osama, Margret Oyugi, the late Job Wesonga, the late Anne Wesonga, Florence Adoyo, Floridah Adongo, Ezekiel Chesa, Emmanuel Nyongesa, Janet Njeri and Hezekiah Bunde. David was brought up in a Christian home which impacted him the necessary Christian values.
EDUCATION AND WORK
David attended Kitale Union Primary School and subsequently joined Chereng’anyi High school in 1971 for his secondary Education. He sat for his EACE in 1974 which he excelled and thereafter joined the Kenya Water Institute in 1975 where he was enrolled for a technological course. He successfully completed his three (3) year training, graduating with a Diploma in Surface Water Technology in March 1978. Armed with this qualification, David started his carrier in the civil service in the Ministry of Water Development where he was employed as a Hydrology Assistant Officer in July 1978.
Aware that he needed to advance his knowledge, David in 1988 took a study leave and enrolled himself at the Kenya Polytechnic to pursue a thee-year Environmental course. In 1991, he successful completed the course graduating with a Higher National Diploma in Environmental Studies. Being a dedicated Civil servant David reported back to his work station and the Ministry of water where he resumed his duties. David was a dedicated civil servant, a man dedicated to his work and this saw him rise through the ranks to attain the position of Principal Hydrology Officer. After serving for 37 years in the same ministry, David retired in 2015 having attained the requisite retirement age.
FAMILY LIFE
In 1987, David met the love of his heart, Rose Margret Ajiambo and they got married. They were blessed with a daughter Ivy Avilla.
SOCIAL LIFE
David was quite a sociable person to his close acquaintances. He was soft spoken and always preferred a quiet life, avoiding controversies. At his age he embraced exercises which he carried out by taking morning and evening strolls in the neighbourhood. It was during one of these strolls that he met his fateful end when he was hit with a light truck inside a petrol station off Jogoo Road about 600 meters from his house in Buru Buru phase 5.
We forever cherish his kindness, his unwavering calm, and the warmth he brought into the lives of those who interacted with him. We loved him dearly, and shall miss him profoundly.
May his memory remain a blessing, and may his soul rest in eternal peace.
