In 2002, Flying Nun Records celebrated their 21st anniversary. As a way of recognising this achievement, on 22 March the label hired out York Street Studios in Auckland for one day, and with some of the classic artists associated with the label (The Clean, Tall Dwarfs, Graeme Downes and Shayne Carter) as well as some of the newer acts (Garageland, The D4, The Hasselhoff Experiment) they recorded a two CD compilation album. The stipulation involved for material to be recorded was that either the artist had to record a cover version of another Flying Nun song that influenced or inspired them, a new or unreleased song of their own, or in some cases both. The resulting album was titled "Under the Influence -- 21 Years of Flying Nun Records". This report was screened on TV3's Nightline news program later that night.
Please excuse the inconsistent video and sound quality - this was recently digitised from an old VHS tape that is starting to show it's age.
