I play this from an early 20th century edition.. the editor marks 'very slow' at the beginning of the Allemande. I understand why! Whatever 'very slow' may mean to one, this 'Almand' has a similar character to the allemande of Purcell's suite 2 in G minor, which asks for a slower pace compared to other allemandes. My favourite movement is the 'Corant', maybe it is the 'choses luthées' again :-)

Mr Bellicanta, the Clavierist
Instrument: English harpsichord by Peter Barnes, soundboard painting by Jennifer Douglas
Tuning: 1/6 comma meantone - a' = 415 Hz
The harpsichord is built according to the English tradition and closely based on a 1709 harpsichord by Thomas Barton (in Edinburgh Univ. Collec.) and a c.1715 spinet by 'Keene and Brackley'. The paintings are closely based on another English instrument, the 'Coston Harpsichord' (in Edinburgh Univ. Collec.).
