Representatives of the Russian elite are actively obtaining Serbian citizenship after the start of a full-scale war against Ukraine. Among them is an associate of the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov . This was reported by an investigation by the publication "Important Stories".

According to the publication, since the beginning of the war, the Serbian government has granted citizenship to 204 Russians on the basis of "services to the country." This is almost two-thirds of the total number - in three years, just over 330 people have received passports using a similar procedure.

The authors of the investigation note that a Serbian passport opens access to the EU countries and about a hundred more states. This may be one of the reasons why Russians are seeking to obtain new citizenship.

As a rule, famous entrepreneurs, athletes, scientists and cultural figures receive Serbian citizenship through this procedure. In particular, Russian boxer Fedor Emelianenko previously received a Serbian passport.

However, passports have also begun to be issued to individuals associated with the Russian defense sector, sanctioned structures, oligarchs, and those operating in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

Among the new citizens of Serbia: Viktor Shendrik is a former officer of the FSB special forces "Vympel", former head of the security service of the oligarchs Arkady and Boris Rotenberg. Ruslan Alisultanov is a former vice-mayor of Grozny, former deputy minister of agriculture of Chechnya, and an associate of Kadyrov. He controls the assets of the Danone company, which left Russia. Nikolay Urayev is the son-in-law of a Rostec manager. He headed the Elekon defense plant, which produces components for the Bulava and Topol-M intercontinental ballistic missiles. He runs a company that produces trucks for the Russian army.

Recall, serious differences have arisen between Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov and the Russian Kremlin , with Moscow unhappy that Kadyrov is negotiating with Middle Eastern monarchies for security guarantees for his family. According to former and current FSB officers, as well as North Caucasian journalists and human rights activists, the main cause of the conflict was Kadyrov's unauthorized contacts with representatives of Muslim monarchies. The Chechen ruler, who has long had health problems, is looking for ways to protect his family and assets in the event of his loss of power.

Despite his attempts to be active in the media, Kadyrov's health is deteriorating. In recent months, he has rarely appeared in public, and speaking on camera is difficult for him. In January and February, he disappeared from the media, later explaining that he was on vacation. According to journalists, he has serious problems with his kidneys and pancreas. According to investigators, aware of the risks associated with his departure from power, Kadyrov is looking for alternative security guarantees for his relatives outside of Russia. These negotiations did not go unnoticed - the FSB passed on the relevant information to Vladimir Putin.
