Discontinued after the second generation, the Matrix XRS is envisioned as a revival to capture the growing demand for versatile, fun-to-drive compacts, competing with the likes of the Honda Civic Hatchback and Mazda3. Speculation, fueled by fan concepts and Toyota’s history of revisiting iconic nameplates, suggests a 2025 Matrix XRS that combines rally-inspired styling, hybrid performance, and advanced tech, built on the TNGA-C platform shared with the Corolla. Aimed at enthusiasts and urban adventurers, it promises to revive the XRS’s cult following with a modern twist, potentially debuting in late 2025.

The 2025 Matrix XRS is expected to feature a hybrid powertrain, leveraging Toyota’s expertise in electrification.
