Overhead Microphones - Coles 4038

Last week I did a 3 part series on tuning and recording a fat snare sound. I really appreciate the positive feedback and would like to continue this week by covering mics and techniques for capturing the full kit.

I usually take a top down approach to recording drums, meaning that I start by trying to achieve a balanced and natural full kit sound from the overheads and front of kit mics. I feel like of the best microphones for achieving this type of sound are a pair of Coles 4038 ribbon mics in recorderman position.

The audio here is just the Coles and nothing else.
