On June 6, 1944, the USS LST-392 landed in the second wave at Omaha Beach—part of the largest seaborne invasion in history. Now, more than 80 years later, the ship’s battle-worn 48-star U.S. Naval Ensign is heading to auction.
Preserved by Signalman 1st Class Donald Bousquet and gifted by the ship’s commanding officer, The flag was aboard as USS LST-392 carried tanks, troops, and a mix of units—including members of the 320th Barrage Balloon Battalion, the only African American combat unit to land on D-Day.
