I Spent $170 on a 1969 Easy-Bake Oven – It Actually Worked?!

I bought a 1969 Easy-Bake Oven off eBay and cooked brownies, sponge cakes – even a fried egg – using nothing but light bulbs. It cost me $170 (cheers, shipping) and came bundled with a chaotic mess of vintage bits – including some mystery bulbs that looked like they'd already survived a war. To my surprise (and relief), they actually worked.

After taking the oven apart, connecting it up with a UK step-down converter, and figuring out which bits didn’t fit (a lot of them), I managed to get it working. The brownies were oddly better than the real oven version… and yes, the sponge cakes baked too — just before the power gave out.

This was one of the weirdest and most fun food experiments I’ve done — does a 1960s toy oven powered by light bulbs still hold up? Let’s find out.
