Dhanurjay Patil : On being the first data scientist in the White House.

Dhanurjay Patil known as DJ, proudly embraces his immigrant status, and was the first ever Chief Data Scientist for the U.S. Appointed personally by President Obama, he said the President had foresight with regards to technology and its potential. DJ worked with him to analyze and utilize data for inclusive healthcare policies and many other functions for the United States. DJ famously skateboarded to work everyday at the White House and become an unconventional and humble figure in government for two years .

DJ Patil’s dad is a Silicon Valley rockstar. Born in Jamshedpur, for years he was an assistant professor of electrical engineering at MIT. Patil founded Cirrus Logic, a leading semiconductor company, with revenues close to a billion dollars. In 1989, the company went public, a first for an Indian in the valley. Suhas Patil decided to use his experience to help other engineers in Silicon Valley who may have the ability but not the network to create companies. The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) was born to guide and mentor engineers to achieve their entrepreneurial dreams. No doubt this helped DJ shape his own standards of integrity. ≈
