In many cases projects are costed until the point where they are achieved; whilst this is needed, to determine the cost of implementation etc. the true costs are often not considered. These are the costs which are required to maintain the deliverable, most often called life-cycle costs.
Life cycle costs are the costs required to maintain the asset past the point when the project has been completed. These costs can include repairs, maintenance, consumables, insurances and many other costs dependent upon the nature of the operation.
When costing the project these costs should be taken into consideration and factored in project selection.
