Excitement and wonder for the Grandma's family on the Doora farm

The air was heavy and overcast, and the smell of rain drifted through the atmosphere. As always, at the first sign of changing weather, the grandmother’s family hurried the goats into the shelters so that if a sudden rain shower came, the animals would be safe and comfortable. Everyone hoped the gray sky would soon break open and pour its blessing over the dry plains. But the next morning, with the sunrise, it became clear that no rain had fallen; the sky had only offered a silent threat and nothing more. Nevertheless, the grandmother’s family—descendants of energetic Iranian nomads—began their day with vitality. Mahbubeh, together with her husband, Sadegh, arranged firewood beneath the large pan and baked fresh local bread over the flames; bread whose aroma mingled with the smoke and drifted far across the land. A simple yet delightful breakfast was prepared: mountain honey, animal butter, and warm bread, each bite carrying the taste of life in nature. Sitting around the fire, the warmth of their close-knit gathering made them forget the absence of rain. In another corner of the yard, Nasro and Sadegh were busy making a new wooden chair for the grandmother. They carefully aligned the oak pieces, and with each hammer strike, the shape of the chair grew more complete. When the work was finished and they placed the chair before her, a wide smile spread across her face—a smile that erased the fatigue of an entire day for everyone. At the same time, the nomad children, who had gone early in the morning to gather acorns in the mountains, noticed the sky turning dark again. Fearing a possible rain, they quickly mounted their donkeys and rode toward the village. As they hurried past Dora’s field, their laughter and playful shouts echoed across the plain. Though no rain fell, the spirit and energy of nomadic life continued to flow—just as it had on every day before.
