Welcome to the Orthodox Church! Welcome to a video series with Khouria Frederica Mathewes-Green. In this series, Kh. Frederica takes us into the Eastern Orthodox Church to learn about Orthodox teachings, traditions, and the Orthodox understanding of what it means to be a Christian.

In this episode, Kh. Frederica explains the meaning and the importance of Virgin Mary's title "Theotokos", or "God Bearer". For further information on the topic, see the Third Ecumenical Council (the Council of Ephesus, 431 AD).

Kh. Frederica is a leading author and speaker in America, on topics of Eastern Orthodox belief and practice, and she has many works published. She converted to Orthodoxy from the Episcopal Church with her husband Fr. Gregory Mathewes-Green in 1993. The couple served at Holy Cross Orthodox Church in Maryland since then until Fr. Gregory’s retirement in 2018.

This series is based off of Kh. Frederica's book " Welcome to the Orthodox Church: An Introduction to Eastern Christianity ".
