This is my original prelude, composed as a musical introduction to Chopin’s Nocturne in F-sharp minor, Op. 48 No. 2.
I’ve always been deeply moved by this nocturne. This short prelude was written as a companion piece, designed to lead smoothly into the nocturne both harmonically and emotionally. However, it can also stand alone as a quiet reflection in its own right.
In this prelude, you’ll hear several elements directly inspired by Chopin:
A right-hand ostinato that mirrors the nocturne’s opening rhythm
Chorale-like chords that evoke the solemn middle section
Long trills, used to create expressive tension and release
