Yo!
I hope all of you are doing well. In today's video, I explore the topic that probably doesn't need to be explored but more or less is a reminder to SAMPLE EVERYTHING. You see, when I first started, I thought the only way to make Hip-hop music was to use a sampler like an SP1200, or an Akai MPC 60. Go to the record store and buy a bunch of records, listen to the records. Make some beats & let the cycle repeat. Although, now that I think of it, I feel like the RZA was ahead of his time in this era because he was focusing on using records but he was mashing them together with those kung fu flicks. Madlib, MF DOOM, are a great example of exploring different mediums. Madlib has sampled Tv shows & DOOM has sampled cartoons. I just feel like the art of sampling is a very underappreciated art & we should explore all kinds of mediums, as not everything is done for monetary value. Sometimes, I like to sample to better my craft, to get better at making beats, to explore different ideas, different sounds, dialogue. I'm just a dude in my room, sampling into my Akai MPC 2000Xl or my SP 404 MK2, or the MPC Live 2, just take make a beat I enjoy & can share with the beat making community. Its about making money its about making art but of course the suits will tell you different. Anyway, in todays video I show beats I made using a video and an anime DVD movie. Let me know if you have any questions. If you guys sample something different make sure to tag me on Instagram so I can check it out. Enjoy the video and thank you for watching!
