Director’s Notes

When I first read Concord Floral, I was struck by how deeply it resonated with the world our students are navigating today. This play, written by Jordan Tannahill, is haunting, poetic, and unapologetically honest. It takes place in a seemingly ordinary suburban greenhouse, but beneath the surface, it explores the hidden lives of teenagers, the weight of secrets, and the ghost stories we carry inside us.

I was drawn to the unique way this play gives voice to young people. The characters are raw and real-sometimes reckless, often vulnerable, always searching. The language is lyrical but grounded in truth, and the story doesn’t shy away from the darker corners of adolescence: peer pressure, shame, betrayal, and the desperate need to be seen.

This production has challenged our cast in the best way possible. It’s pushed them to confront difficult material, to trust each other, and to reflect on the unspoken experiences many teens share. It has also reminded all of us that theatre can be a space for healing, for asking hard questions, and for making sense of the chaos around us.

Concord Floral is more than a ghost story, and like the characters in the play, we must decide whether to look away-or to face what we find staring back at us.
