A new phase of the eruption is occurring on Mount Etna at this moment. Volcanic activity is concentrated in the area of ​​the south-eastern crater. Since 15:00, an increase in volcanic tremor was noted, which reached a high level by 20:00 at an altitude of about 2750 meters above sea level.
Since 20:05, INGV surveillance cameras recorded Strombolian activity. Lava emission began from the crater: lava flows moved along the eastern slope, dividing into three branches. Powerful explosions were heard at the top of the crater, accompanied by loud booming rumbles that could be clearly heard in populated areas on the slopes of the volcano. An ash cloud was recorded, carried away by the wind in the east-southeast direction. There was no ash fall in populated areas.
At the moment, no critical problems for the population have been recorded, but monitoring continues and is carried out constantly. Etna, as often happens, once again reminded us of its unpredictable but fascinating life force.
