Why you should visit Cat Ba Island | Lan Ha Bay | Vietnam Travel blog

Hi everyone, I am Harshit and welcome back to my channel. In this video, I’ll be diving into the reasons why Cat Ba Island should be at the top of the list when planning your Vietnam trip. And how you can plan a three-day trip to CatBa island from Hanoi.

Cat Ba Island deserves a prime spot on your Vietnam trip itinerary for several compelling reasons. Firstly, its proximity to the renowned Halong Bay makes it an accessible and convenient destination to explore. But beyond its accessibility, Cat Ba Island offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural richness that sets it apart.

Cat Ba Island is accessable from Hanoi via bus and ferry transfer. I booked my transportation from Goodmorning Travels from the 12go Asia website. It cost us around 1000 rupees per person. It took around 3 hours to reach Cat Ba from Hanoi Old Quarters, with a short 15mins break in between.

On the first day, I went out to a short hike to Canon Fort, where the sunset view from above was breathtaking. Later I went on to explore its local cuisine and tender coconut ice cream. It was really delicious. There are plenty of decent and affordable hostels in Cat ba. I stayed at the Secret Garden hostel and it was incredibly beautiful and comfortable.

The next day, I woke up early and set out for the Lan Ha Bay tour. I had booked this one-day cruise tour directly from my hostel. The tour package cost 500 VND, which included a shuttle ride, entry fees, lunch, and a dry bag. Our itinerary for the day was packed with exciting activities. First, we would visit the famous fishing village, followed by some swimming and kayaking, and finally, a stop at Monkey Island.

On the third and final day of my stay on the beautiful Cat Ba Island, I rented a scooter and set out to explore with some wonderful friends from my hostel. Our first stop was the Hospital Cave, constructed by the Vietnamese army during the American War. It served as a bomb-proof hospital, featuring a total of 17 rooms, including a hospital ward, operating theatre, and more.

Next, we headed to the National Park, which is a natural reserve situated in the heart of Cat Ba Island. A short hike leads to the summit of Ngu Lam Peak, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains and jungle. The hike is of medium difficulty, traversing dense forest and steep inclines. It took us just over an hour to reach the top viewpoint. I highly recommend bringing plenty of water, as there are no water sources along the way, and the climb can be really exhausting.

Overall, Cat Ba Island stands out as a must-visit destination in Vietnam, offering something for every traveller. Whether you're seeking adventure, relaxation, or cultural enrichment, Cat Ba Island promises an unforgettable experience that will leave you longing to return.
