I was hoping for more wind today but it was only 5-8 knots. I tested the Spark Sailing Canoe on the Chesapeake Bay in fairly big waves. When going into the wind , the front of the main hull did a lot of pounding, but the skimmer no so much. The boat did best on a beam reach and broad reach. I was about to turn around when I saw a 39’ yacht behind me, so I turned around and let it pass then was able to catch it on a downwind leg.
The reason I could catch them is because my hull is more narrow and they did not have their sails trimmed perfectly. But at least you now have a comparison.
Even smashing through 3-4 foot tall waves, only a few drops of water got over the front gunnel.
