1928 Morris Cowley Saloon

This Morris Cowley ‘Flatnose’ Saloon is in absolutely lovely condition and has clearly been the beneficiary of much care and attention.

We have had a number of these cars but this one stands out as a particularly nice example and you would struggle to find a better one.

Resplendent in crimson over black with a gold coachline, the Cowley is very smartly presented.

The interior is equally lovely with seats re-trimmed in brown as close to the original ‘Karhide’ as is possible with light brown carpets. The headlining is in perfect condition with a net for storing lightweight items.

Being an early example all the brightwork is nickel rather than chrome which has a very pleasing soft sheen and feels much more of the period.

The doors shut with a satisfying railway carriage-like clunk and they are all lockable. There is a toolbox (with tools) on the offside running board while at the rear there is a folding grid for a trunk. and a Fortnums picnic basket comes with the car.

The Cowley is fitted with the desirable option of four wheel brakes.

The engine starts instantly and the car drives well on the road with no slop in the steering and a compliant ride. The 3-speed ‘crash’ gearbox is easy to master and the 1.5 litre Hotchkiss derived engine has plenty of torque.

The dashboard is furnished with speedometer, ammeter, oil pressure gauge and a clock. All are in working condition.

Discreet directions indicators are fitted and there is a master switch for the battery in front of the driver’s seat.

The engine bay is well presented and the Morris retains the correct bronze bodied SU carburettor and Lucas magneto. The fuel is fed by gravity from the scuttle mounted tank.

The Cowley is well catered for by the Bullnose Morris Club, the Morris Register and a number of independent parts suppliers.

An original Oxford and Cowley Manual accompanies the car.

It would make an ideal wedding car and would surely win prizes at shows as well as providing excellent value Vintage motoring - just the thing for taking on a summer picnic.
