[JAPAN] Masakazu Tamura Tribute - Legendary Actor

This video is dedicated to Mr. Masakazu Tamura (aka Masa) who "died suddenly" on 3 April 2021.
Masa, a famous Japanese actor, was born in Uzumasa, Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture. He then moved to Setagaya, Tokyo, and graduated from the Faculty of Economics at Seijo University. He was last affiliated with the Shinwa Office, his own private film company.
Masa is the third son of "Tsumasaburo Bando," a famed Kabuki actor. Along with his eldest brother Takahiro Tamura and younger brother Ryo Tamura, he was called the ``Three Tamura Brothers' for a long time, but in reality, there were four brothers, including his second older brother Shuma Tamura. And, there was his half-brother who was an actor, Yasuhiro Mizukami. His family consists of his wife (a civilian woman) and a lovely daughter.
Masa grew up near the Toei Kyoto Studio, which is located on the site of the former Banduma Productions, a company built by his father. After little Masa and his family moved to Sagano, also in Kyoto, but soon he lost his father when he was in the fourth grade of elementary school (9 years old). So, his family moved to his mother's hometown of Setagaya in Tokyo the following year.
When Masa was young, he somehow wanted to do the work his father did, and when his father, Tsumasaburo Bando, found out, he was splendid with the idea. Masa recalled, ``I guess he wanted me to follow in his footsteps." So, he taught me how to act and dress like "Tange Sazen," a famous Samurai. Tsumasaburo was a popular Kabuki actor and busy; however, he kept summer time for his children. Masa said that his good memories with his father and brothers were all in the summertime; nevertheless, his childhood was a very happy one. As Masa grew up, he was particularly influenced by how to act by his famous Kabuki actor, his father.
After entering Seijo Gakuen School, Masa joined the basketball club in his junior high and high school years. In 1960, when he went to see the filming of the movie ``Hatamoto Guretai'' starring his older brother, Takahiro, Masa was encouraged to appear in a small role in the film. After that, in 1961, Masa signed an exclusive contract with Shochiku Film Studio. In Sept of that year, he made his official debut in the film, "Eternal Man," while attending Seijo High School. In 1965, the four brothers made their first solo lead role in ``Kono Voice Naku Scream" and in the same year, the four brothers co-starred for the first time in ``Hare Taiko,'' which was produced by NHK to commemorate the 13th anniversary of Tsumasaburo Bando's death. Since then, in 1966, along with her studies, Masa appeared in movies and TV dramas until he graduated from university in 2015. During this time, he appeared in NHK's historical dramas for five consecutive years, starting with ``Hana no Seikatsu'' in 1963.
When Masa was under an exclusive contract with Shochiku, he was approached to appear in 10 films a year on average. He wanted to choose the films he wanted to appear in and didn't want to be forced to appear before the script was ready which made him turn down five offers on average. Masa also said that he regretted appearing in ``Kyoyu no Hanamido Dosu'' because he was forced to do so.
Masa was born into a privileged Kabuki family and his acting career steadily grew and he became one of the most famous actors in Japan/the world.
In Feb 2021, during the COVID-19 plan-demic, Masa received two jabs, and he developed severe health problems; he was hospitalized. His family and relatives were told that he was undergoing rehabilitation shortly, but at 4:20 pm on 3 April 2021, he died suddenly of heart failure at a hospital in Tokyo. Masa was 77 years old. His death was kept secret from the public; however, news of his death was reported on 18 May 2021 worldwide.
