Here Marcus Rex, the owner of Rex’s Speedshop talks us around his business and takes us behind the scenes for a look at his long-standing Yamaha SR500 project. This model was the start of his successful business, and he now specialises in designing and manufacturing unavailable parts for a range of machines. He also retails a large range of other parts, and you can visit Rex’s Speed Shop in Robertsbridge, East Sussex or order online https://rexs-speedshop.com/
Rex’s Speed Shop was started by Marcus Rex when he had difficulties sourcing electricals for his Yamaha SR500. It’s grown since then, and since 2010 the dedicated team design and manufacture electronic, ignition and generator systems onsite at Robertsbridge in the UK.
Project Bike Featured: Marcus’s longstanding project Yamaha SR500. To clarify the models timeline:
1978: The SR500 launched alongside its smaller sibling, the SR400, primarily aimed at the Japanese and European markets.
1980s–1990s: It gained a strong following in Europe.
1999: Production for the European market came to an end, mainly due to tightening emissions regulations.
2014 to 2021 The SR400, however, carried on in Japan and even saw a global relaunch (with fuel injection) from 2014 to 2021
