Precast flat slab concrete bridges account for one-third of the roughly 9,000 bridges in South Carolina. Most of these were built decades ago and have exceeded their original life span. SCDOT, the University of South Carolina and Clemson University are working together to research and implement additions to these aging bridges to reduce load postings across the state.
