Black marketeers are still breaking the international embargo on
Serbia as the UN considers further easing of economic sanctions
against the country. Romanian authorities face a daily challenge
to enforce the sanctions along their 275 km (170 mile) border with
Serbia. On Saturday (25/2), Romanian police seized a record 55
tonnes of illegal petrol in villages and forests along the River
Danube separating Romania and Serbia. The petrol was hidden by
Romanian peasants and gypsies who have been making thousands of
dollars smuggling and selling black market petrol to dealers in
Serbia.
