A link-local IPv4 address is an IP address that can be used within a network but is not reachable over a router. Generally speaking, when we see an IPv4 address in the range of 169.254.x.x (the APIPA range), this usually means that we have a problem in the network due to DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) not working correctly. APIPA is an acronym for Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA) and is enabled on most Windows-based computers.
