Cop Shuts Down Extortion Claim With Phrase: “You’re in Public” — Then Cites Poster 7 |

When I showed up at the ‪@usps‬ in Weston, Florida, I expected the usual public confusion about cameras — but I didn’t expect a customer to accuse me of extortion for filming in a public lobby.

Where did that accusation come from?

From postal employees who told customers — incorrectly — that filming wasn’t allowed.

Let’s set the record straight:
Every federal post office is governed by Poster 7, which clearly states that photography for news purposes is allowed in publicly accessible areas. It’s federal policy. It’s protected by the First Amendment. And it’s posted on the wall in plain sight.

But the USPS staff at Weston acted like they’d never seen it. Instead of correcting the record, they spread misinformation — telling people I wasn’t allowed to film. That gave customers the wrong idea. One man in particular escalated, got confrontational, and accused me — on camera — of extortion.

Let that sink in: extortion for filming in public.

He threatened to sue me. Claimed I was trying to make people pay to be removed from my video. He was loud, aggressive, and absolutely wrong.

And then came the best part:

BSO showed up… and got it RIGHT.

The responding deputies from the Broward Sheriff’s Office walked in calm, professional, and respectful. They listened. They assessed the situation. And when that same customer repeated his extortion accusation, the deputy responded with:

“You’re in public. He’s allowed to film.” "That no recording sign isn't legit!"

Then, to everyone’s surprise — and my complete respect — the deputy cited Poster 7 out loud.

No threats. No unlawful orders. No intimidation.

Just law enforcement doing exactly what they’re supposed to:
upholding the Constitution.

That’s why I call this the Walk of Honor. Because when the law is respected, and deputies walk away without interfering with protected rights, that’s not just a pass — that’s a model for how it should be done.

Unfortunately, the trolls didn’t get the memo.

If you’ve been following GCNN, you already know I’ve taken criticism for offering an optional “opt-out” policy for people filmed in public. That page is gone. But even when it existed, no one was ever forced to pay. There was no coercion. No demand. Just a simple courtesy form that got twisted into a narrative about “extortion.”

Let me be 100% clear:
🎥 Filming in public is NOT extortion. It is a First Amendment right.
