📘 Relations and Functions
🔹 Relation – Definition
A relation is a connection between elements of two non-empty sets.
If set A and set B are two sets, then any subset of A × B is called a relation.
👉 In a relation, one element of set A may be related to one or more elements of set B.
🔹 Function – Definition
A function is a special type of relation in which each element of the domain is related to exactly one element of the codomain.
👉 Every function is a relation, but not every relation is a function.
🔍 Main Difference Between Relation and Function:
Relation
👉May relate one element to many elements
👉Not necessary to follow a fixed rule
👉All relations are not functions
Function:
👉Relates one element to only one element
👉Must follow a strict rule
👉 All functions are relations
