Background:
The Spice Girls recorded a song titled W.O.M.A.N. during the early studio sessions in Summer 1999 for their third album with long term producer duo partners Biff and Matt. Speaking to Spice Girls biographer David Sinclair previously, the Spice Girls' co-writer 'Biff said: "I thought that song was really interesting lyrically, because it was making the progression from girls to women, which was something I thought it was time for them to do. They needed something to suggest that they were still the same group of friends, but they were gaining more maturity." The girls previewed the song during the Christmas In Spiceworld Tour in December 1999, whilea snippets of studi versioon was featured on the Sky One documentary of the concert, proving that a studio demo version existed.

As the third album leaned towards an R&B direction, the girls opted to send the pop-oriented track to DarkChild for a makeover, aiming to align it with the album's style. However, despite their efforts, DarkChild expressed their inability to make the transformation successful. Consequently, the song failed to secure a spot on the third album, Forever, reportedly leaving Emma deeply disappointed.

Over the years, fans have passionately expressed their adoration for the track, yearning for an official release, yet the girls have remained steadfast in their decisions. Melanie C has addressed the track on various occasions, initially citing quality concerns for its non-release, a sentiment that frustrated some fans who felt their support was overlooked. However, in a 2022 interview with Attitude, her tone shifted...

"Asked if W.O.M.A.N, performed live on the 1999 Christmas in Spiceworld tour, will ever see the light of day, Mel said: “Biff [frequent SG co-writer Richard ‘Biff’ Stannard] had some lovely ideas around that,” Mel smiles. “Maybe there’s another life for W.O.M.A.N. But you’ll have to wait and see. It needs a banging remix! I just don’t think it was ever as fully-formed as we needed. But, in essence, it was definitely an evolution [of the girl power message].”"

In May 2023, a 12in vinyl disc of the studio sessions featured three unreleased tracks WOMAN, Go Go Go and Too Hot reached bids of up to £7,100 on eBay. Few days later, the digital files were leaked on the internet, turned out that the tracks were not full studio versions but only accapella snippets. The vocals on this video are a mix of the vinyl, Sky One snippet, and the live version.
